Vehicle-to-vehicle communication for AVCS platooning
نویسندگان
چکیده
Vehicle-to-vehicle radio links suffer from power variations, multipath fading and associated Doppler spreading in frequency, as well as interference form other vehicles. These effects are investigated in the context of an Automated Vehicle Control Systems (AVCS) employing vehicle platoons. A statistical model for the channel is considered and the performance of the network involving many links is evaluated. We compare the performance of Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA), Direct Sequence Code Division Multiple Access (DSCDMA), and Multi-Carrier Code Division Multiple Access (MC-CDMA). Reliability of the radio link is investigated by specifying the radio spectrum occupation for a given required reliability of the radio link.

Vehicle-to-vehicle radio links suffer from multipath fading and interference from other vehicles. We discuss the impact of these effects on communication networks supporting an intelligent transportation system (ITS), in particular, automated vehicle control systems (AVCS’s). A statistical model for this channel is considered, and the performance of the network involving many links is evaluated...

متن کاملV2V Communication Quality: Measurements in a Cooperative Automotive Platooning Application
This paper presents measurements on Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) communication between participants in a platooning application. Platooning, according to the SARTRE concept, implies several vehicles travelling together in tight formation, with a manually driven heavy lead vehicle. The platoon being studied consists of five vehicles; two trucks in the lead and three passenger cars. The V2V-communica...

Previous studies have shown the ability of vehicle platooning to improve highway safety and throughput. With Vehicular Ad-hoc Network (VANET) and Cooperative Adaptive Cruise Control (CACC) system, vehicle platooning with small headway becomes feasible. In this paper, we developed a platoon management protocol for CACC vehicles based on wireless communication through VANET. This protocol include...
متن کاملMethods to Improve V2V Communications in Platoons of Heavy Duty Vehicles
In the coming years V2V communications will probably be mandated and vehicle OEMs strive to nd business opportunities to nance its investments in V2V communications technology. For heavy vehicles, platooning can be this business opportunity, with the motivation for the eet owners that platooning can decrease the fuel consumption by up to 15 % when driving in platoons. However, challenges still ...
